I just watched a podcast from Jenn Cutter on OpenAlpha.TV about Lua Player and I just thought I'd bring it up here as it was pretty interesting. It seems like Lua Player provides an easy way to run Lua scripts directly on the Playstation Portable along with an easy to use API for manipulating the screen. Many people have taking the base engine and made a number of different games on it including Breakout, a Tetris-clone, Dr. Mario, etc. It comes with a Windows emulator for testing and development and I was actually very impressed when I took a look at the source of some of the samples. For example, this is the source of their Hello World sample:
This could easily be put to use for non-PSP games. They provide the source for the Windows emulator as well as provide an easy way for users to put the games onto the PSP. Very nice. I just thought I'd bring it up here as you guys are of course most definately interested [wink] . A great tutorial introducing the API is available here: Lua Player Tutorial.
green = Color.new(0, 255, 0)
screen:print(200, 100, "Hello World!", green)
for i=0,20 do
x0 = i/20*479
y1 = 271-i/20*271
screen:drawLine(x0, 271, 479, y1, green)
end
screen.flip()
while true do
screen.waitVblankStart()
end
