I have a graphic card that has direct X 9 and HD support. But I wanted to know, if I install it into my PC, would I be able to hook an xbox 360 up to my PC screen and get high def quality or does it only work if I am playing a game or watching a movie on my PC? Thanks.

Hmm... You can hook the XBox straight to a monitor. It won't use the PC at all...

But thats what I mean. With the HD card installed into the PC motherboard, could I still connect a 360 to the PC monitor and get HD quality from it?

Why would a card in your PC affect what your monitor is capable of displaying?

If your monitor can display HD resolutions, then any HD video source you hook up to it will display as HD. If it can't, nothing you do will get HD to display on it.

Only if both ends of the connection (your XBox and your monitor) support high def. And if that's the case, there's no need to go through the PC, just plug the X-Box into the monitor.

I don't think my screen was made for HD, but this HD card did make the graphics on my games about 50,000 times better, so I guess that counts for something. I'm just curious that if I connect a 360 to the PC monitor, will I get the same results as I do from a PC game.

OK, let me try to explain...

//What you have now:XBox 360PC---------connected to-----Monitor//What you might have later:PC (without a monitor)XBox 360------connected to-------Monitor

That means your PC video card has less to do with the quality of the image than your microwave, since your microwave can at least provide some sort of interference. Now, assuming your monitor has the correct inputs and that you have the right cable to connect them, you will have HD-quality content on your monitor, yes, since the XBox360 supports HD internally.

Alright, heres the best I know how to put it into figures:

Heres the package ( PC --- with HD videocard installed )

On the sidelines ( xbox 360 with the proper HD cables to connect a PC or a regular HDTV. )

End reult ( PC --- HD Card installed into the PC --- monitor connected to PC ) <- 360 plugged into the monitor.

So there will be 2 things hooked to the monitor - The PC, along with the 360.

Now would that work, or would we have to have the 360 plugged directly into the PC itself since thats where the card is installed?

You won't be able to plug two things in the monitor directly or you will have to use a KVM-switch like thing that will be just like unplugging and replugging the PC and the XBox360 directly in each time.

You won't be able to plug the XBox 360 trough the PC either.

You need to hook only the 360 exclusive-or the PC at a single point in time to the monitor. The PC and the XBox360 won't talk to each at all. Ever.

Get a KVM switch. Around $30 bucks. You hit scroll lock on your keyboard twice and it switches the output of your monitor. You may look for one with external power supply because your xbox won't have a keyboard/mouse plugged in and some draw power from that.

You'll need a set of VGA cables or a switch that supports Component tough. A switch that supports component should be more expensive.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to tell us exactly which monitor you have. Then we can figure out what resolution it does, and what inputs it accepts.
