I'm not sure if this was posted here before, but I found this flash that shows you the frustration when working with the java gridbaglayout. Link to flash.

Thank goodness for BoxLayouts inside simple GridBagLayouts.

Also, crack. Mm, crack.

And I had almost forgotten just how much the GUI system in Java sucks...

By sheer coincidence, just a few hours ago I started using GridBagLayout to design a GUI. It's my first time using it. That flash is very accurate.

Yeah, I'm wondering if there are any good free visual form designers for Java. I never found one I liked. Didn't look too hard though. Any recommendations?

Say, I never have these problems in C# *runs for cover*[wink]

Netbeans has Matiesse, and Eclipse is after getting a third party port of it.

Remember, to blame your tool is to be a tool.

It is never the hammers fault when you bash your thumb. (Unless the hammer has been fitted with a thumbseeker warhead, then you're screwed. In which case, use the right tool for the right job, and find a screw driver.)

Well what the hell good is a screw driver going to do me when I'm trying to pound a nail?![smile] You're going to look pretty stupid bashing a nail in with a screw driver.

a few times.

Apparently the gods of computers liked me at the time. Things where were I wanted them the second time around, and never had problems with resizing. (mind you, the program with the larger layout never actually worked because I designed the core code at like 5am when I couldn't sleep. So, all the buttons and fields were where they should be, but the output was nearly random.)

The coffee part was uninspired and banal.

I've only used Java's windowing stuff as part of a computer science exercise, and I do remember that it's one of the few cases where using C and the Windows API is actually easier. Thankfully I only use Java in servlets at the moment.
