I have an amatuer scientist sort of interest in botany. I picked up a book on the subject from my college library. It was published in 1981, but is basically an intro book. Has botany advanced so much since then the book would be useless?

I was a former biotech major, so this may be biased, but I might assume that the only things that have changed majorly have been in the genetic department. I know for a fact that Monsanto has been making genetically modified plants for a long time that are pesticide resistant so that you can blanket pesticide on crops to kill weeds, but not the produce. GMOs and their classifications are another hot topic. That's as far as I can tell you...I have worked with GMOs and sequenced them to compare to ordinary, non-GM variants of the same species, but that's my extent of botany :).

If you're interested, check out Monsanto here.

Hope that helps,
