ok i had a fx 5800 and desided to upgrade to a geforge 6800 and i figured i could just plug and plat it becuase they both use the same driver but I have problems so i unstalled the driver and then tried to reinstall it, but have way through, you know whent hte screen goes blank for sec and the cumes back on, well when it came back on the screen was all messed up so i restarted. then i booted into windows again and the windows XP loading screen comes up fine but when it should show the login screen, it is the same messed up screen but when i log into linux suse 10 it is fine. does anyone know what else i could can before i formatted my windwos par and reiinstall fresh? if that does not work then i will just take it to my lcoal computer store but i really don't want to spend 75 for that.

I would boot into safe mode(press F8 before windows starts up) and uninstall all video drivers there and then re-install them. Also, what do you mean when you say the screen is all screwed up?

I suppose there's a chance you never really updated your 5800 drivers and so the new card isn't fully supported by the old ones. You could always plug the 5800 back in, update the drivers to a recent version, then shut down and swap cards. That should work, but YMMV.

my guess is vertical bars of color across the screen with no real picture anywhere. i get that with anything but the last two nvidia drivers in linux.

that solution should work. boot into safe mode, uninstall the driver, reboot. with the driver uninstalled windows should fall back to a generic vga/vesa driver so you can reboot normally and install the latest driver.
