Greetings everyone. My brother who currently attends high school is required to do a graduation project, and he would like his to be on computer programming. This involves many different steps, one of which is learning at least one language. He has asked me to be his mentor for this project, and in doing so, I will need to help him through learning a language. He was considering either C# or Python (I am going to ask him to provide an explanation of interpreted and compiled languages in his research regardless of language [wink]) and I had this question for you. Which, in your minds, with constructive arguments in favor of C# or Python do you feel would be more beneficial to a beginning programmer. I don't feel I have the ability to answer this question, as I started (aside from MS BASIC) with ANSI C. I've been studying C# myself, and have really enjoyed the ease in which I can create code which would take much more time to produce in C. I however do not have much knowledge in Python, so it would be a learning experience for both of us if the general consensus is that Python is easier to learn. Thank you in advance for any input on the matter. [smile]

They're both good languages. Python has a rather rough and laissez-faire approach to OO, probably engendered by the fact that it isn't most people's first language. C#, I think, would be a better language to demonstrate OO. In contrast, Python can demonstrate functional programming much better than C#. Either one would suffice, though.

I don't think you can really go wrong with either of them. Both languages are pretty beginner-friendly.

I must say that I prefer C#. I have never really worked with Python, so I cannot answer to that.

But from what I have seen relating to my (inferior) experience, C# is a begginnging language that has ALOT of potential.
