is winamp still the best program for listening to mp3s? Anyway, ive just spend a ton of time fixing up all my mp3 filenames to a standard format: each file is named like this: Band - Album - Song.mp3 But when I load them all up into winamp, they dont show up like that in the playlist. They show up the same as they did before i changed the file names. For example: Perfect Circle - Track 6 when the actual file name is A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms - 3 Libras.mp3 I know that the info that winamp displays actually comes from the contents of the file, not the file name. But is there any way to tell winamp to display the filename and not the ID3v2 (or whatever the hell its called)? What about a program to rip through all my mp3s and set the ID3v2(or whatever the hell its called) to the file name?

I believe there are several ID3v2 mass-namers. If you remove the ID3 tags from the files via Winamp's info box, it then just displays the file name. I'm sure you can turn off the ID3 display.

Try Preferences -> General Preferences -> Titles -> and change Advanced Title Formatting to %filename% just to make it display the file name.

Ohh i think i figured it out:

if you go to preferences -> titles
under advanced title formatting, the default format is:

[%artist% - ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%))

but if I change it to

$filepart(%filename%)

then it does exactly what I want.

sweet.

Open the playlist editor and goto Playlist->Playlist preferneces->General Preferneces->Titles and edit the "Advanced title display format" string.

I wrote an id3 sync program for that once a while ago but since lost it. Though I was a little pissed when all of my MP3s suddenly had the same date stamp. So much for sorting through the old.

Dammit, I got beaten too because I had to turn on my Windows box to actually take a look. [crying]
