Hello. I am working out of the book beginning directx9. Well I'm on the directinput chapter and when I try to compile this code I get the following error: 43 C:\Dev-Cpp\include\dinput.h .drectve /DEFAULTLIB:"uuid.lib" /DEFAULTLIB:"uuid.lib" ' unrecognized 43 C:\Dev-Cpp\include\dinput.h .drectve /DEFAULTLIB:"uuid.lib" /DEFAULTLIB:"uuid.lib" ' unrecognized Yes it does give it twice. I'm using dev-cpp 4.9.9.2 btw. When I double click on the error it bring me to this line in dinput.h #pragma message(__FILE__ ": DIRECTINPUT_VERSION undefined. Defaulting to version 0x0800") Now I'm guessing this isn't an error with the dinput.h file. But maybe I'm wrong. If anyone needs to see the code then say so. Thank you.

1.) "DIRECTINPUT_VERSION undefined: defaulting to version 0x0800" is just a warning. DIRECTINPUT_VERSION is just a constant which gives a number to tell DirectInput which version of DI to use; if it's undefined, it will assume you want the latest version (0x0800, or version 8).

2.) I'll make a guess and say that DEFAULTLIB: is a MSVC++ only directive. Note that Dev-C++ only supports libraries under the .a format, so any .lib files must be turned into .a files. If you want DirectX to work as-is, you're better off using MSVC++ Express (which you can now download for free forever, BTW, no more November cut-off ;)

Thanks, I'll look into that.

But is there any way to change .lib file into .a files. And would this fix the problem. Because if at all possible I would like to use dev-cpp. But if it wouldn't even help fix the problem then nevermind anyway. ThankYou.
