I need a team for a game I am creating. I need programers, developers and at least one artist, people with at least a basic understanding of mythology and ancient cultures would be nice. The game will be an mmorpg based on countries and lords for wars and leadership. The game is set in a world in which each culture in the game is an ancient culture from this world. (Ex. Celts, American Indians, etc.) In the game the diferent forms of combat and magic your character learns depends on which culture he is training in. In other words, the game could get extremely complicated while developing. If anybody wants more info or wants to find out more then e-mail me at cavolboy89@yahoo.com *SEE POST BELOW* [Edited by - maverickvol on May 24, 2006 3:23:38 AM]

Team name:
still to be decided

Brief description:
The game is set in a world in which each culture in the game is an ancient culture from this world. (Ex. Celts, American Indians, etc.) In the game the diferent forms of combat and magic your character learns depends on which culture he is training in. In other words, the game could get extremely complicated while developing.

Target aim:
I plan on leaving that primarily up to the team itself. But right now I think freeware for the original and then either having to pay for a better account or having to pay for an expansion pack or such.

Compensation:
needs to be decided by team/still unsure

Technology:
Target system: PC (NMORPG) programming language or tools: needs to be decided by team Artist tools: up to artists Sound tools: up to the people doing sound

Talent needed:
programmers: program the game and make sure it stays updated experience needed: know-how I'm not looking for people who have a background in programming just people who will and know how.

developers: help me to come up with a world that draws people into it experience needed: just a knowledge of mythology and history or a knowledge of how to integrate an idea into a game so that it works.

concept artists: give ideas for how characters/creatures/buildings or terain should look experience: none required but you do need to know how to draw well.

Team structure:
there is currently no team other than myself.
I will work on getting everyone on the same page and getting things done. I will make sure that we don't have two people working on the exact same thing, more than one person may be working as a team to get something done but the would not be working on the same things seperatly.

This does NOT mean I will take control of the project and make it go my way or make people work more than they volunteer to. This is completely volunteer related so if someone wants to leave, they can, if someone doesn't want to do as much, they don't have to.

Website:
none yet

Additional Info:
That's about it. read the stuff above and e-mail me.

Feedback:
any related to the topic

I don't want to be an ass, but what makes you think you're qualified to lead/coordinate a team? I assume you have little or no experience in the listed areas - so "making sure two or more people don't work on the same thing" is just not enough.

Just a friendly note.

In case you hadn't noticed, MMO posts tend to be met with a little ridicule around here. Mostly because the majority of them come from people with no experience of any team-based development, never mind games. In order to sucessfully recruit a team you need to be able to demonstrate a very clear direction for the project - technically and in terms of game mechanics and setting.

You are aware that games of this type take YEARS of time to develop, even with a team? Very long term developments are difficult to manage in terms of staff turnover (people come and go), style unification (code and art), scheduling to avoid deadlocks in the process, the list goes on.

It sounds to me like you've had an idea (possibly a good one) and are jumping in before learning to swim. I'd suggest you sit down and work on your setting, and try to figure out what sort of mechanics you want to support it. Get these into a concise design document and read it to yourself. Stop for a week or two, then read it again. Keep repeating this process and eventually you'll come up with something a little more robust. Use this as the basis for planning your project and you'll be able to put together a much more effective plan.

What experience do you have with game development. You obviously have never worked with big projects, as if you did it, you wouldn't post something like this.

I suggest you begin with something smaller, maybe a simple RPG. At least write a design document for your game, and try doing a simple demo (2D, no need for nice graphics). Then you could create a team. If you want people to go in your team, you have to show them more than a few ideas. They need to see concrete elements, proving them you will be able to conduct your project.

Good luck, leading a team is a difficult job
