I'm not sure about you peoples but I'm just amazed at how this person in this Half-Life Done Quick movies uses everything at his disposal just to do stuff faster... -Use tripmines to skip a whole level (about in the middle of the movie). -Jump from who-knows-where to all the way down somewhere and lose a hell of a lot of health just to advance without taking the normal route. -Jump and latch on to all the way bottom of the ladder. -... http://www.gamershell.com/download_5745.shtml

I've seen one of these where the guy exploits some sort of clipping issue with the skybox to get ahead after doing a succession of rocket jumps.

A lot of the other speedruns are a lot of fun to watch, too: there was a cool Deus Ex one a short while ago.

This guy kills a few soldiers and then climbs up on the cliff...

Walks a while and there is a long but narrow walkway through the cliff where the helicopter is loaded and is not in motion (just the model is loaded and the long narrow passageway... no other terrain... just the usual back-ground bitmap to make the level seem endless...). So he goes to there and ofcourse knows where to jump off and walla! He just advanced a battle with a chopper and 2 gigantic fishies!

Also, I hate the bastard editors over at Wikipedia. Alt-0224 ftw.

Viva the input system of the Macintosh! I always thought that the alt codes in Windows were clunky; Macs just use the Option key plus character keys to do accents. So Option- puts a àccènt òn thé néxt lèttèr. Änd sø ôñ... (yes, I'm aware most of those characters are not valid French).

You ever tried pressing accent key (`) and afterwords a on a keyboard in Windows (or Dos 6 or an old fashioned typewriter)? Maybe the input system on your mac isn't that revolutionary... àáäâãéèêë?

What? How?

Speed runs are always fun to watch. I remember Quake Done Quick from back in the day.. amazing stuff. I was pretty damn good at killing people but it would take a lot of practice and time to do a good speed run.

Yeah... Practicing alot I got 6 minutes on Episode 1 of Quake 1. QDQ did the whole game in 10.

And the thing is, this guy knows exactly what to do next.

Once he through I genade that didn't affect anyone (or atleast I thought so) and then I figured out that he did that so that the soldiers would cover their heads and not attack him (he was on like 38 health for jumping from who-knows-where to down somewhere else).

It's like he memorized everything - there was a vent in which he jumped in and in the darkness knew to shoot 3 headcrabs (well, with a flashlight but he kept shooting knowing that headcrab once he killed it, but it covored the others so they were invisible)..

Yeah, it's not enabled on American keyboards by default unless you enable one of the international keymaps. The Japanese keyboards have something like that as well.

Anyway, back on topic: A couple new indie games are starting to ship with "speed run" modes, like within a deep forest. I can't wait to see the replays for these.

You think HL2DQ is impressive? Check THIS out. Megaman 1 in 16:58. Just because it's tool-assisted doesn't make the glitchfrenzy and ultimate precision any less interesting to watch.
