Hello Gamedev, I've got a problem and dont know what to do! I have this old computer I am trying to get working, but it just isn't going right. My problem is, when I try to start it up nothing shows up on the (tested, working) monitor. The fans spin up, and there is no beep code that says there's a problem. thats why I'm lost! I had the computer running about a week ago. I sold the CPU and bought a new one and now it's not working. The new CPU is an Athlon XP 2100+ (rest of specs) Radeon 9600XT 512MB RAM Gigabyte mobo (GA7NNXP) What I have tried so far: Resaeting the RAM removing CMOS battery(for about 5min.) removing everything, then rebuilding the computer tried 2 different(both working) PSU's So I have no where to go(except here). Anyone have a similar problem and know how to fix it?

Sounds like a borked or improperly seated CPU.

You could reseat the CPU, and if it's new, return it to the store to have it tested. Did you power on the machine with only the CPU(+fan ofcourse) and RAM? Does that create any sounds? I know you can't see something, but the at least you might get some audio feedback.

If not, either the CPU, RAM or mobo are borked.

I had that problem, it ended up being faulty RAM. Figure out what kind (speed) of RAM your mobo takes and borrow some proven-functional RAM to test it.

I would say, in order:

faulty configuration(i.e., expects wrong processor, wrong jumper, etc)
faulty ram
faulty mobo
faulty cpu

Make sure your jumpers are all correct, esp for FSB if you have them.

edit: also check for bent cpu pins - that will get you.

My brothers computer died of catastrophic hardware failure. I replaced (and upgraded) the motherboard and CPU, and got him more ram. So all is well, except I just got up and found this message:

[04:12:56] where can i find my virus scanner on this pc?
[04:15:53] HELLO!
[04:16:05] i have a very big virus
[04:17:30] TYSON!!!!
[04:17:39] I KNOW YOUR THERE
[04:18:09] where the F**k is the virus scanner on the computer
[04:27:12] WTF
[04:27:16] Answer me
[04:27:17] NOW

I fear for this new computer's safety.
Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

Thanks for the replys. I will try out different RAM as soon as I get a chance. I hope its not the mobo.
