Hello all, I am having an issue managing my build of a C++ DirectX app in Visual Studio. I had originally been working on the project from my laptop, and I compiled both Release and Debug versions of it when testing. The Debug runs a lot slower than Release, which seems normal. However, I have recently begun testing it on my desktop as well. I transferred the whole project folder over, but when I build, it does not seem to be able to make a Release version. I get very low framerates, which is the first thing that makes me suspect I am running a debug build ( since my desktop's specs are slightly better than my laptop ). The second thing is, whenever I try to run the app, I get this message : "Project Blah does not contain debugging information.( No symbols loaded. ) Click OK to debug anyway." I have tried using the "Run without Debugging" option, but it doesn't seem to make a difference ( my framerates still look like debug rates ). My understanding is that the libraries it uses are different in debug vs. release, so simply chosing not to debug won't make it use the faster code. Somehow I need to convince it to really BUILD and RUN the thing in Release. And yes, I do have the "Release" slider selected. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much, jujumbura

Make sure all the debugging options in the DirectX control panel are turned off.

Under "Build" -> "Configuration Manager", choose Active Solution Configuration "Release" and make sure the "Configuration" hasn't been changed to "Debug".

I still haven't figured out why you would ever want to reverse them like that... but it seems that you can!

Thanks guys,

But how do I bring up the directX control panel?

Hmm,

If you were referring to the DirectX options in the main Windows Control Panel, I did go through them, and none of the options to use the debug versions or to output debug information are on.

Any other ideas?

My framerates in debug and release are practically identical, so I'm still really suspicious.
