Hi all, I recently graduated from UCSD with an Economics degree. After working for about a year as an accountant, I have decided a career change and plan to pursue a career in Web Interface Design, specializing in User Interface Design. However, I am unsure how to get into this field. I have taken a few Dreamweaver classes and know the basics of Photoshop. I really do not want to go to another 4 year college program (simply because I am getting old and it would cost a lot). I plan to enroll in DAC (Digital Art Center: http://dac.ucsd.edu/) in Fall and hope that this will be a good direction. Any suggestions or advice??? Also, I plan to get a head start and learn some basic programming. Does anyone know a good beginner's book for html/css? Thanks for reading this post and i hope to hear from you guys soon. Jason

Just a reference book would be best. There's tons of great tutorials out on the web. Just check the resources sticky and the forum FAQ. As for UI design, I strongly suggest you take some usability courses and dive into web accessibility guidelines. There's information about that on the web too, but less.

Definitely what Sander said. In addition, you should check out Jacob Nielsen's page (google for it, my internet is fucked) for usability (often web design specific, but look around for some very useful, general research).
