Hello everybody, I am trying speed up my opengl application and i just discovered something interesting. When i use glutInitDisplayMode with GLUT_SINGLE, my application is 400% times faster in 640x480 and 200% faster in 1280x1024. With the GLUT_DOUBLE, it's seems that the FPS are limited to my screen Frame Rate. So I suppose that games like Quake, Unreal don't use GLUT_DOUBLE because it would be a lot slower. That's why i tried to use GLUT_SINGLE but without succes :(. In fact, i have some horrible things on my screen (i can see the screen refreshing). 1) Are games like Quake use GLUT_SINGLE or GLUT_DOUBLE ? 2) How can I solve this prolem ? 3) Is there a tutorial or something on it ? Thanks a lot, Lud2k

Hello,

I wanted to use it because in 1280x1024 i had only 37FPS (Screen Max:75PFS).. but apparently it is due to the vertical synchronization (if i well undestood wikipedia, "..limited in frame rate to a divisor of the refresh rate..").

I'll have to figure out another way to make it faster.

Thanks again.

You can control vsync with the WGL_EXT_swap_control extension on Windows. I can only assume GLX_SGI_swap_control is the UNIX variant. Keep in mind that you can force vsync on or off through your graphics drivers' control panel so those extensions are not guaranteed to work.
