I downloaded VC 2005 Express when it became free, and I really love it. I don't, however, love that the default project crams all the files together. I'd like to have just the "finished product" in my bin folder, developer-relevant files in the src folder, and all the intermediate files under the $(ConfigurationDir) folder. I have two questions really. 1.)Where can I configure the .ilk file so that it doesn't end up in my working/output directory. 2.)How can I set up a project template to use these settings every time? Thanks for your help! PS: I've read about exporting templates on msdn, but I can't find that option on my file menu! Is it disabled in express edition?

i always forget that you can't post links anonymously.. msdn forum entry.

Well, at least it gives me some finality. I should go to their forums more often! Thanks, I'll give you a ratings++ for that!

I still wonder which option is for the directory of the incremental linker file (.ilk). At default, it produces one in the same directory as my .exe, but I'm not sure how (or even if) I can change it.

Does anybody know how to move the .ilk file?
