Hi All, The forum is looking a little empty so I guess I'll kick things off. How's everyone doing? I'm Meto(rical) and live in Central London. I'm getting back in to games programming after quite an absence and I'm loving every minute of it. We should share our backgrounds and then maybe arrange a meet?

You know, I was thinking just the other day we need another meet up, I need more pie! [grin]

Well I'd be up for another one. It terms of when it could happen I'm pretty much free between 15th and 25th June (inclusive) after that I can only do weekends. When is everyone else free?

Personally, I've got 3 months of doing sweet FA infront of me, so I'm good whenever... well, as long as some cash I'm hoping to get turns up, heh

During the week is definitely best for me but I could do a weekend potentially. I guess if people vote for when they'd prefer?

1. Weekday in the Evening, 6pm onwards
2. Weekend in the Morning, 10am onwards
3. Weekend in the Evening, 6pm onwards
4. No Preference.

My choice would be 1.

I was hoping at the start of the year to organise meets quite regularly, like every two months or so.

Unfortunately, as it has turned out, I've had precious few free weekends this year, and it looks set to continue that way until mid august at the earliest. I could probably make a schoolnight meet if there's enough interest, although travel + working hours make weekdays a bit less than ideal.

I think the whole travel aspect does do in a few of us for week days, which is why thus far meets tend to occur at the weekend.

I can probably make a weekday meet if it's after 7pm. Friday would be best so that I wouldn't need to get back home for work the following day.

Weekday after 7pm. I never really finish work before 6pm. :)

Since I'm now 18, I can legally go to a pub (YAY), so, I should be up for any .uhh.. meetings.

Good!

I'm calling it. Let's say Friday the 18th of August, 7:30pm. How does that sound to people?

Seems a bit far off, but I suppose it allows greater chance for more people to uhh.. join.
I might be a bit short on cash by then, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

My background? Uhh I have one year left studying Compi Sci + Eng at University of Surrey but am working for a year to pay off some debts and save some money so I can live indoors and eat during my final year.

I am a software engineer, or I guess 'database programmer' for the ERDU (energy resources and development unit) team at the dti, working in Westminster, London.

Thus, it should be fairly easy to make a meet in London if I am not busy that day and can finish my work on time.

Will we be changing the meet format so we don't meet up somewhere and then go someplace else, but rather meet at the final place? Since we missed at least one person last time.

I think we'll have to; given that it's an evening meet, I don't think we really want to be spending too long hanging around waiting for people's trains to arrive.

Yeah I'd appreciate it if we could organise it so we meet in the pub we intend to do the drinking in at 7:30 rather than somewhere else and spend ages wondering London. I'm only going to be able to stay til about 11-11:30 and I'm sure other people are similarly limited.

Superpig was saying something about booking a table in the Porterhouse Bar (which we went to last time but left as if was rather full), prehaps we should try booking ahead somewhere this time?

I like this plan, they did good chips as well as I recall...

Sounds like a fun week. MindWipe is coming over for a holiday so I will be drinking on one (or possibly more?) of the other evenings, but he is flying home on the 18th as far as I remember.

Damn, I was hoping that he was flying home on the morning of the 19th... if he can make it I'm sure we'd love to have him, but I think a number of us couldn't really do a night earlier than Friday because we'd have work the following day.

Booking a table at the Porterhouse is a plan if people are up for it; I just need to find out how much it costs to do so, and how many people we'll actually have. Either way I definitely agree that we want to meet at our final destination and not spend ages traipsing around the place.
