I'm helping out a guy with buying more RAM for his computer, but I can't remember what numbers are supposed to match up. There's the FSB on the motherboard, and I'm guessing both the CPU and the RAM have to match something it's capable with. For example, looking at my motherboard manual, the FSB supports 400/333/266/200. The CPU slot only supports 400/333 MHz, so I'd ignore the last two numbers on the MB's FSB. Then my RAM should be either 400 or 333. Do I have that right? Right now his computer has two 256 MB sticks in it. Should I try matching the speeds those have, or does it matter?

Make sure the RAM is at least as fast as his current RAM. All the ram is going to run at the same speed. What kind of processor does he have? You are correct to have the RAM run at the same speed as the FSB (or HTT).
