Instead of the companies fighting each other, would it be better if they worked together? Sony brings the hardware, MS designs the hardware abstraction and software framework, Nintendo brings er... new stuff. Then developers target the one system and juice it to the max. Rather than trouble with porting, we have a system where each company does what it's best at. I know this coming true has less possibilities than Afghanistan winning the world cup this year (they aren't in it :-)), but woudn't it be nice?

No.

Dodging the fact that they won't work together, this will give all three less money and rid all opisition. No opisition means less need to do bettter/sloppier work. Also, holding a monopoly, they'd charge us more for games and jack up the price of the console.

Oh, and it'd be the Wii-X Station. [grin]

I like having a choice and some variation. I like how it is.

The 360 is a machine with near 10ghz processing power, a state of the art custom ATI card along with 512MB GDDR3 RAM @ 700mhz, etc.. Do you really think you'd be able to get a machine like this for anywhere near $300 if there wasn't such intense competition between these companies? I'm not a huge fan of capitalism but it's worked out great with these three large companies legitimately competing for the business of a relatively educated consumer.

I guess you're right. No way Sony would take hundreds of dollars hits with every PS3 sold if they were the only ones in the business.

Besides, they'd never work together.

Sony'd say: "Our automated clapper will change your conception of clapping. The next generation of clapping starts when we say so."

MS'd reply: "Our clapper does so much more than clap. You don't need floating points to clap."

Nintendo: "A clapper should clap. Wii[why] more?"

Now replace every clap with a crap. He he...
