Music/sound from my computer is acting up. Whenever I play something with lots of bass(?) it becomes all scratchy and static-filled. I disconnected the sub-woofer and switched out the speakers with an older set, but it still messes up, somewhat. How can I check if my soundcard is messed up? Or whaty else should I check? I know, you probably can't help me unless I be more specific, but I don't know what to look for. Any help you can give me is much appreciated. -Servant of the Lord

Sounds like either a dead/dying card, or just plain old volume splatter. Try turning down various volume controls and see if it helps - focus on software volume as software amplification usually splatters the worst.

Some cards have a specific bass amplification ability - right click the Volume Control in the system tray, select Open Volume Control, click on Options, make sure Advanced Options is checked, and (if present), click the Advanced button under the Master Volume slider. That's usually where the bass-control is hiding, if you've got one.
