I just read on a Dutch news site that MSN Live was out for real, so I figured: Since I'm probably forced to update at a later moment, I'll just download it myself manually. So I installed, and signed in with trouble(Good start there!). Apart from the fact that it takes ages to start(Come on man, it's an Instant Messenger, I see no reason why it has to take 30 seconds to a minute to start), my entire freaking contact list is EMPTY. Anyone else has/had this issue? And how did you fix it? Note: It might have to do with the "Connection error" popup when I hover my mouse over the MSN icon. But it just doesn't error any errors... I managed to fix the problem by running the MSN connection wizard. It turns out, it couldn't connect properly due to wrong connection settings in IE.

I have recently been playing with ISA on my lab server, and it changed the connection settings to use the following proxy server: http://server:8080/array.dll?Get.Routing.Script

Changing it back to auto-detection solved it.

Let me know if you find a way to fix the performance issue, cause I agree its just sick how long it takes (It really is like 30 seconds).

In comparison, my C# MMORPG server, on startup, allocates 400MBs of ram, parses several rather large config files, does a whole bunch of Windows Sockets work, and spawns a few hundred creatures, all in about 10 seconds.

So what the hell is MSN doing that takes it soo long?!

It's written by Microsoft, and speed of programs doesn't give Microsoft money, only the bells and whistles do. Maybe they'll tweak the performance if many people complain, but knowing 90% of the Microsoft customer base, you can't expect miracles to happen.

I went back to GAIM for the time being. I was having problems with sending messages. I like the design, but there are still some critical flaws, I think.
