Im trying to create a DLL that will essentially be a scriptable 'virtual machine' for my game. I looked into third party programs such as Lua, but they just did not seem right for my game. Does anyone know any links to articles, tutorials, whatever so that I may learn how to implement a scripting engine? It might be silly to reinvent the wheel but its something i have been meaning to do, so id rather not default to third party scripting engines. Thanks for any suggestions.

What exactly are you looking to implement? Lua allows you to create almost any type of scriptable system you want...

You might want to look at the links on developing your own scripting language in the Forum FAQ.

There are a series of articles here on gamedev:

This looks like a great article series, im definately going ot read it. My game only requires setting/manipulating variables, thats about it. I dont need complex things like loops, etc.

In that case, Lua is almost ideal for your needs, but it's up to you.
