Me and a freind want to make a game/demo that is somewhat like God of War(as a note, I know C/C++ OpenGL and some DirectX as for my freind he's a 3D artis who uses Maya). I have been researching game engines, read some posts, looked on Devmaster.net, etc... and would like to know what your opinions are as to what the best engine for the job would be. Thanks in advance.

This all depends. What have you made so far?

I've gone throught several books including OpenGl Game Programming, 3D Game programming all in one, Programming Role Playing Games, Beginning DirectX 9, Game Programming all in one, Game programming all in on, some C++ books, and tuts or course. As for my friend he has a CIS degree and a minor in 3D modeling. I've made some clones aswell.

Dive in. I'd suggest you try to get stuff rendering with OGRE or Irrlicht or something like that, and then work on making the game.

Thanks! I think I'm going to use Irrlicht, and for anyone else out there who has an older computer and uses Dev-C++ this engine works great for that aswell as high end machines.
