When holding left-key and up-key, the space key is not registrered as being pressed. Is this a common problem and does there exist some work-around?

I know that some keyboards don't allow for more than x keys to be pressed at the same time. Has nothing to do with DirectX and you can't do a thing about it.
But that particular combo should work. I use DirectInput ans it works fine for me.

Generally I just use GetDeviceState to read the state of the keyboard.

But it is the same problem as in Windows: If you for example in notepad hold down the 'up key' and 'left key', you can not make a space. If you hold down the 'up key' and 'right key' there is no problem... So is this a windows error, or is there a work-around?

But please report if this is not a problem on your keyboard... I have tried it on two keyboards on two different computers - same problem...

Well, i can make a space with up and down pressed. Try switching your keyboard?
EDIT: misread it, tried up-left too and still works fine

I can, this must be a problem with your keyboard.

It seems like this is only a problem on the two keyboards I've testet then. Really weird... But thank you for testing ;)

yeah it is a problem with the keyboard,
the common keyboards have kind of pads under the keys and one pad can handel X keyinputs, so cheap keyboards can handel 2 keyinputs per pad expensive up to 5...

I've just tried this on my laptop keyboard and i can't press space when im holding up+left arrow keys either. In notepad just entered several lines of text, placed text caret in the centre of the block, pressed and held up+left then hammered the space bar, caret moves up+left one line and one place but the space bar does nothing.

Wierd, never heard of it before, everything is fine with other combinations too.

For reference it's a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop, fairly normal laptop keyboard layout although the "up" and "down" do have an alternative function.
