hey this is my first post here so im sorry if its in the wrong place. anyway iv been trying to make a game in java using this tutorial, and the other following it http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1262.asp i have everything downloaded and am using jdk. when it says to complie the applet and it says to "go into DOS and type "javac HelloWorld.java", i have no idea what he means by dos. at first i thought it meant my computer command prompt. i know this is probably a very stupid question and if figured out i will kick myself in the head by not know it, but i have very little knowledge of game programing, and only very basic knowledge of how games work. *edit* sorry about the double post my computer is laggy

but it says type javac HelloWorld.java into it iv tried that and all that happens is it says javac is not a reconized as an interlan or external command

(thanks for the fast reply)

*edit* ok i got it, i found how to do it, the problem was that i just when into the command prompt and typed in javac helloworld.java, then after i saw what you said i used the command to go to program/java/jdk/bin and then typed in javac hellword.java (the file was on the desktop) so {thrid times the charm} i moved my applet to the bin file typed in javac one more time and i got the .class file, i have offically made my first java applet. thanks for your help

You have to add the java sdk to your windows path. In Win XP you can find it under the control panel, in performance and maintanence, then system. Go to advanced then environment variables. Then add the directory for the SDK to the end of the path. Make sure to put another ; if there isn't one at the end before you add that. Then it should work from the command prompt. :)

[Edit]
That's so you don't have to go to the java compiler path. You can run it from your java program's directory.
