Hi. Is there any different between SetRenderState(ID3DEffectState) and SetRenderState(IDirect3DDevice9) specially in performance? I put some cache function for render state . like below... if( CurrRenderState[state] != state ) { device->SetRenderState(); CurrRenderState[state] = state; } And I want to know how "device->SetRenderState()" works in programmable pipe-line. Because I want to use above cache function in my shader library.

Most of the render states are fixed-function only, so setting them is useless for the programmable pipeline. However, some are still active (things like ZENABLE, etc). The specifics are documented in the chapter of the SDK docs which talk about what parts of the fixed-function pipeline that the programmable pipeline replaces.
enum Bool { True, False, FileNotFound };
