As part of my invented-just-now 'Green Movement' season here's another interesting product to help you get a-round on your bike... RevoPower's 'the Wheel' is a two-stroke petrol engine completely contained inside a standard sized bycicle wheel. It generates 1HP and can get you to about 20mph on a flat road with efficiency of 200 miles per gallon. It'll cost around $400. They are currently gearing up for mass production and investing in R&D of four-stroke, ethanol and hybrid 'the Wheels' [smile]. The current model is not quite powerful enough for me yet, specially because im in a very hilly area, I have no problem getting myself around at good speed on flat road, but if this thing can take the work out of the 30% gradients around my town then i'm sold. Perhaps another one or two horses would do it. Edit: for your own sanity, use the low bandwidth website.

Oh boy. Because two-stroke exhaust is so healthy. [rolleyes]

The little dinky motor is pretty cool, though. For full effect, attach one of these.

They have a section which addresses this. But yeah, not convinced by that feature.

Given that two stroke engines are becoming illegal in the UK, I can't see this lasting long (that's for new two strokes, existing equipment is fine).
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.

I'd like to put a WW2-style warplane rotary engine on my bike.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My signature is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My signature, without me, is useless. Without my signature, I am useless.

On the German IFMA show of 1951 the Velmo-Motoren GMbH from Hamburg showed their hub engine,

it was a complete engine, including fuel tank integrated in the front wheel hub.

According to Manfred Nabinger, writer of a book on German cycle engines, it is assumed that the series production of this engine started one year later by the Nordapp Kraftfahrzeuge GmbH in Ladeburg am Neckar. Difference to the model showed on the IFMA were another name, "Nordapp", and the fact that the fuel tank was now mounted outside the wheel hub. First as cylinder shaped tank in front of the steering head, later as a kind of saddle over the front wheel.

The only difference between the Nordapp and the Velmo showed on this web site is the name on the wheel cover. In Germany they were sold as Nordapp, abroad as Velmo.

PS. There is also the "Wing Wheel" as seen below.

PS2. There were many more back then.

Really? That's not a terribly big surprise, the oil-gas mix used to piss me off before I went to a four stroke and I'd bet money that I slipped at least a few mL of hydrocarbons into the lawn by mistake (and many more into the air, that thing was a stinker).

Kind of a shame, two-strokes are some of the most efficient engines ever made.
