Does anyone know some good algorithm that takes an arbitrary mesh and do a uniform uv-mapping on it? The difference between the texture coordinates has to be proportional to the distance between vertexes. Maybe someone has a link or something:)

Unless you have very simple convex meshes, covering an arbitrary (probably concave) mesh with a uniform UV map is mathematically impossible. The best you can do is to approximate it with semi-uniform pieces stitched together, controlled by some error metric. Check out this paper for an algorithm.

Stitching pieces together is not the only possibility. Do a Google search on "conformal surface parameterization".
