Heres the scoop. I just got a memory stick that I ordered from ebay, I think its a 2 GB. Anyways, it was a pain in the ass to get into the other memory slot on my motherboard, but now those 2 GB are not showing up in my C drive properties. Does anybody know whats wrong and can anyone help me? Never messed with memory sticks before so this is fairly new to me. Thanks.

RAM sticks arn't hard to put in unless... you bought the wrong kind. The slots DID fit, right? Make sure that you put it into the next avaliable slot. For example, if slot 1 and 2 is used, put it into slot 3, not 4.

Why exactly would it show up in your C drive properties? and on a gamedev board no less?!?! *boggles*

Anyways, When you first power on your computer, check how much memory is identified by the POST.

and/or Control Panel > System , and check how much is identified.

Your C drive properties?

What are you speaking of?

You didn't...insert the memory into the harddrive, did you?

(simplifying thing a lot here but)
Because when you buy RAM it goes toward your SYSTEM MEMORY and when you buy a HARD DRIVE it shows up as your C, D, E, etc DRIVE LETTER

RAM != Hard drive
RAM does not affect free "memory" on your hard drive

p.s. If you hold [Windows] key and press [pause/break] it'll bring up your system properties. In the lower right it'll show how much RAM you have. It *should* show up as having 2gb more :)

Yeah it fit, but I had to struggle with it a little, but it was a perfect fit. But its supposed to add memory storage space to my C drive right? Thats why I went to properies frist because it tells you on that circular grid how much GB the computer has and how much of that space is being occupied. The chip looks like this. Its not exactly this kind, but this is the basic kind of memory stick.

Adding more RAM(what you did) does not increase your hard drive capacity. If you want more harddrive capacity your going to have to get a new drive and install that one along side your surrent one, or get a new one with a large capacity and re-install windows and use it as your single main drive.

...if you want a tempory drive, you can create a ram drive, although everything will be deleted when you restart the machine!

In the modern age, memory stick can have two means, a "memory stick" is typically a USB stick that you can move between computers and is sort of like a extremly large and fast floppy disk. a "stick of memory" is something that will generalyl increase system performance, if you have a modern machine you would want ideally want to get half of the total ammount you want and get two for dual chanel mode which makes the computer go faster still (for example, if you want 2gb, get 2x identical 1gb modules).

For hard drives, to increase your c drive space, you cant really do that, what you can do is buy a second hard drive and using special tools such as partition magic? or norton ghost, you can put the second hard drive in, then move the first hard drive to the second, and expand it to take up the rest of the free space. Or what I would recomend is just bunging in the second drive and using it as a d: drive. You could also use special tools to make one raid drive expanding both drives, but I would recommend against this.

Hope this helps you a little, and this thread has been funny to read!
