[REALLY ANGRIFIED RANT!!!!!] Okay, I've just got back from a shift at HELL!, sorry ASDA, and I just need to vent some rage. I've been working my ass off all night and at the end of the night a jar of bolognese fell of a badly stacked cage (not my fault - it was terribly stacked!). So, as it was past 9, there were no cleaners in so I had to clean it myself. I clean it up and get back to my job, trying to get as much done before my shift ended having fallen behind thanks to the accidental breakage. Then my manager comes up to me and tells me I *HAVE* to stay in until I've finished my job. Sorry? Firstly: badly stacked cage. Secondly: accident anyone? Means it's not my fault, surely? Thirdly: WHO THE HELL HAD TO CLEAN IT UP BECAUSE ASDA CAN'T BE ARSED TO SPEND MONEY ON 24 HOUR CLEANERS IN A 24 HOUR STORE??? Naturally I told them where to shove it. In a nice way. Ish. [/REALLY ANGRIFIED RANT!!!!!] (I'm surprised - I hardly swore at all...)

ASDA is a subsidiary of Wal-Mart, and you wonder why they have poor working conditions? [wink]

Tough break man, hope you get paid well to make up for it. [grin]

Meh. Life sucks, then you die. Bitching never solved anything. It sounds to me like the root problem was you, and your coworkers, not taking steps to prevent badly stacked boxes from falling.

And for the record, they are paying for twenty-four hour cleaners. You. Having somebody to walk around the store [I assume ASDA is a grocery store of some sort] with a broom all the time is a phenomenal waste of money once most of the customers go home.

I hear ya, I used to work at Wal-Mart back in high school, sucked so much. Know how I got through without going insane? By comaplaining about it all the time, much like your rant. Sometimes a friend of mine and I still complain about it, and we have to remind ourselves that we don't work there any more :).

But, it was a job, and it sure beat fast food. Plus it got me my first two cars (yes, both were quite cheap) and allowed me to build my first computer, so I guess it was worth it.

Oh, I disagree. Bitching solves everything. Or maybe not, but you sure feel better afterwards.

If it was me, I'd just leave. You're in no way obligated to stay behind. If you wish, make up an excuse about haveing plans or something, but personally I'd just refuse to, then walk out hen my shift was due to finish.

I would've covered myself in the bolognese and run into your boss' room screaming bloody murder about the CIA putting a chip in your brain.

I've been informed that this creates a "hostile workplace", however, so use it with caution.

That's what I did. I'm just pissed they actually tried to make me stay. I'm beyond getting sick of the place now. I'm so handing in my notice within the next couple of weeks.
