Hello all. I would like to implement statistics viewer for site, and I found on sourceforge awstats. The problem is that I have acces only for htdocs. I don't have any access to config file, and I can not change anything but upload site. My whole site is in html. Can I upload it somehow to some directory and put some code in html files to track things? Any other idea? And how can I track how many times are downloaded zip, exe files? Thanks

It won't work. AWstats needs access tp the httpd logfiles to produce statistics. What hosting package do you use? Most come with a statistics analyzer on the admin configuration panel.

Simpliest possible package. I have access to htdocs folder and nothing more.
But I can run php and pearl and have access to one sql database.

You don't have any cpanel to manage e-mail accounts, passwords and other hosting account stuff and the like?

Maybe you should move hosts? If you want to track downloads of files you will need access to the httpd logs, or you need to download through a PHP script. The latter means a custom solution for your site, so no standard statistics package.

Nop. I don't have cPanel, and it has cool features, I know :(
I don't want to change host plan, because I have unlimited bandwith, few GB of disc space, SQL, PHP, CGI, Pearl runing possibilities, as many e-mails as I want, and all that for free. No banners, no pop-ups.
And only I can't access httpd logs, nor anything beside my htdocs directory.
With these things can I do something? :)

Play around with PHP/MySQL and build your own tracker. I don't think there are any standard statistics packages that will run without httpd log access. Track pages by including your tracker.php script (downside: all pages need to be PHP pages, not HTML) or include a small image on each HTML page that points to your PHP tracker.

For stats I would recommend Google Analytics. Its free, and is a very good tracker, although you might have to wait a while to get approved, there is a bit of a waiting list. You simply drop a small piece of &#106avascript onto each page and google will do the rest.<br/><br/>However this will not track the number of file downloads. To do this you will need to code a simple php script to handle all downloads. Im sure there are millions of free scripts out there that will do it for you.

EDIT: I didn't have to wait for google anyalitics at all. Maybe because I have gmail account.

If you do not mind answering streamer who's the host?

So you do mind.

Nop. I don't mind. But there is a little problem if you want to acquire similar account. You see, this is a hosting company from Hungary, and they just host such companies who give them appropriate hardware. So, If you give them a server configuration you are approved to give hosting whoever you want. Company that hosts a hosting companies. Something like that. I got free hosting because I did some favor to friend of mine, and he knows somebody who do such things. Anyway to run server on their side, you pay cc. 80$ per year, but as I said you can gain money by acquiring customers.
So I can't give you any weblink, because I don't know who host my site. It is a friend of friend of mine, who I don't know. Sorry [sad]

Thank you [smile] I'll change it.
You can't imagine how much headache gave me that site. My native language is not english, and I didn't learn it at school. But I think that it's not so bad. [smile]
