im begginer with DirectX, but i want to take a look into more advanced feature. recently i was making simple program with simple lighting, but i found flat lighting is very priceless. i was looking for technique that was used in doom 3, and after some searching i found its called per-pixel lighting and it uses stencil buffer. i was searching for stencil buffer, but everything i found was advanced tutorials here on gamedev, and not much more. i want to ask for some tutorials for begginers of this technique. tnx

btw, i found one old topic(2003 maybe) about this thing. not very long, only two answers. anyhow, if i got it right, is stencil buffer something like an 2d array of certain type(0/1, 0..255,...) for example 1024x768? or is there something more?
