mud-eye

Ok.. i was hitting balls off the range the other day when on one particular strike, as the golf club was hitting the ball/ground, the mud that was struck flew into my eye.. fast enough so my blink reflex did not kick in quickly enough. So immediately i tried to wipe some off with my shirt but obviously that didn't work too well, and then at home, i hastily tried to just run running water from the faucet through my eyes. Later that day, I found some mud floating around on the eyelid/eyeball which later ended up congregating on the inside corner of my eye, but i wiped it off. Is there much else I can do to clean out my eye? I'm worried now about putting contacts in for fear that might hurt my eyes.

Why not just fill a large bowl or tupperware up with water and stick your face into it? Blink a few times, shake your face out..

Your eye, like most of your orifices, is more or less designed to naturally remove foreign objects and cleanse itself.
But take the above advice. Really get down into some water and speed up the process.

Every house really should have an eye wash bottle. Basically a plastic squeeze bottle with an opening that cups over your eye. With your head bent over, you put the cup around your eye and gently squeeze the bottle till it starts to over flow, keep squeezing, trying to get a flow going against your eye. This should remove almost anything you have stuck there. However, if you have something embedded in the eye, it shouldn't be used, but they are great for if you get something like Gas sparyed into your eye.

You should be fine as long as you keep the dirt away from your pupil.
