Hi All, Does anybody know of any, or have any game programming tests? Like, for example from when applying for a game developer position. I am interested in learning the level, and type of questions, and getting a bit of practice. I have found the ones at codesampler (http://www.codesampler.com/miscsrc.htm bottom of the page) but I would like to find some more. Thanks in advance!

You want to test your skills as a game developer? Make a game.

Programming isn't chemistry or world history. There's no reliable test for competence. Having a solid portfolio of finished, well-polished projects is far more useful when job-hunting (especially in the games industry) than being able to answer contrived questions.

I would suggest reading through some of Joel on Software's blogs - to get some insight in to what employers are looking for.
Anything posted is personal opinion which does not in anyway reflect or represent my employer. Any code and opinion is expressed “as is” and used at your own risk – it does not constitute a legal relationship of any kind.

You guys are right, I am working on a game at the moment (as well as a few other bits and pieces such as re-implementing STL containers and stuff for educational reasons).

I noticed that many Game Developers use a programming test as the first part of the hiring process. I was hoping to find some more tests to get more of a feel for the level and difficulty of the questions, reoccurring themes etc. since I am working hard to learn allot of information in a short amount of time.

Also, thanks for the pointer to Joel on Software. I discovered it a little while ago and absolutely love Joel's writing and technical style. I have learned tonnes from reading it.

Thanks.
