Whether the paystation is a true 3D console or not is irrelevent. OpenGL was originally design to work on 2D and 3D graphics systems with comparable performance. The only reason OpenGL is not on the PSX is because all the people that have all the details of the PSX architecture are trapped behind a NDA. Therefore they cannot make anything that will expose information that Sony has not approved.

Eh, what? Can you translate that please?

PSX does not use OpenGL because, well, why should it? Isn''t that a bit overkill, the library functions Sony provide cover all the hardware capability. It would be completely pointless to create OpenGL drivers for it.
