DS Games !!!

Original Post
A new part of my life starts next week that will involve a ~70 train/bus/subway (or some combination thereof) of travel, two times a day. This being said: I NEED SOMETHING TO DO. So, I am buying a DS Lite and I need some suggestions on games. Two that I am definitely getting: - New Super Mario Bros - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow A previous thread had some suggestions on DS games, but I'd like to get more. I want 1 more game in addition to the above two. I was looking at Sonic Rush, or Kirby Canvas Curse (but I hear this one is really quite easy). Any other suggestions? Maybe some non-platform type games? GBA games would be fine to. I've heard good things about the Fire Emblem series. Thanks for feedback !
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Mario Cart
Those are my two suggestions. I don't own a DS, but my brother does. I love playing those games.

Get the Big Brain Academy. It's like a crossword puzzle, but it lights up and beeps. Endless replayability, and I'm told it's kind of good for you.
Meteos (if you can't find it advertised new, look for a used copy; I've found DS games have the best "quality" after being used - hard to damage media combined with a nice plastic case mean almost everyone keeps DS games in almost mint condition with the original manual and package. Just remember to read the manual to see how to reset the save/memory so that you aren't continuing someone elses game)
Yeah the New Super Mario Brothers rocks. I got Mariokart which is good but I wish I had friends to play against. Multiplayer isnt the same when everyone needs a copy of the game. :( I picked up Starfox but I dont really like having to use the stylus to fly. I'm interested in getting Mario 64 DS because aparantly you can play through as other characters with special moves and such. Currently I'm enjoying Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap GBA until the new zelda comes out in '07. Also I'm highly antisipating the redone Final Fantasy 3 in a few months. I'm also looking to pick up some more games so let me know how it goes.
I've found that Bust-A-Move is a great way to kill time between my classes. If you have larger blocks of time (or find it easy to pick up after saving) Advanced Wars is also good.
I bought a DS. I like it, except it has a dead pixel.
I like Super Mario 64, but I find it difficult to control. The + pad offers zilch precision, and its easy to have the circle on the touch screen to end up off the edge, at which you have to stop or run backwards to get it back in a usable location.
Dumb question: Are not all courses availible in multiplayer Mario Kart, or does the other player need their own copy of the game to be able to play the entire thing? I bought it used and didn't get an intruction booklet to read.
Apparently, in some stores, you can wirelessly download demos of DS games.

I too bought it used and was wondering the same thing. I havnt experimented with the multiplayer yet because I dont know anyone else with the game.

I've got 2 DS's and 2 games of Mario Kart here, and it looks like I got access to all courses (e.g. 8 times 4 in VS mode). I can't compare with the "cardless" play (where one downloads the game) as nothing seems to happen (or the download takes a long time) when I try that option.
I second big brain academy, Ive been playing it almost once a day ever since I got it, try beating my highscore of 1900g :-D.
Dont' forget about GBA games, there were some good ones. If you are fortunate enough to have a Fry's near by they usually have a HUGE selection of them.
If you like RPGs you can pick up FF4 (GBA). The mario & luigi lost in time is also a good mario RPG type game.
Rocket Slime is a must if you are a Dragon Warrior/Quest fan. It's gameplay is kind of like a simplified down secret of mana with a twist. Also, my roomate really likes Advance Wars, which is a strategy game that takes a ton of time to beat (got REALLY good reviews).
If you like the Lego Star Wars game the 2nd one (original episodes) is out for the DS as well.

What is Advance Wars like? It looks like some sort of simplified RTS? I'm contemplating it but then again I've got my eyes on the new Age of Empires for the DS.

I wouldn't call it a simplified RTS. Wikipedia has a good entry on it. I've spent over 3 hours playing it today. It's very addicting and fun so far, and it feels like it will take some commitment to really master it.
Although it's not 'real-time' (possibly why you called it 'simplified'?), they do add some real-time elements. One map I've faced so far in campaign mode has a missle headed towards your area, so you must defeat the enemy in 30 minutes. The clock ticks in real-time. Oddly, they still consider a single turn to be '1 day'.
I somehow messed up on this level. I was only left with ground to ground units (infantry and tank) and the enemy was only left with air to air units (fighters). So basically I did nothing for 10 rounds while the enemy air units ran out of gas and crashed to the ground. Quite a spectacle [lol]
That sounds pretty cool... maybe I'll pick it up. Should I go for Advance Wars: Dual Strike or the original gameboy advance game?

I haven't played AW on GBA, but I'd say go for the DS version, since the interface of it is so much user-friendlier thanks to the stylus than what could be possible on the GBA.
