description of your image We are seeking concept artists, 3d modellers (cinematic/high poly and low poly)and programmers to produce some character, environment and creatures for this game =). Brief description: Aim The main aim of this game is going to provide a deeply rich storyline that engulfs the player into the land of Assyria. To provide a technologically advanced spell system and richly detailed environment. We want to be realistic in our goals, it is therefore a single player game (for now, small scale multiplayer support may be added later). Our plan is to use Ogre 3d along with ODE physics engine. As indie game developers we don’t have a lot of money that we can spend of fancy graphics and physics. Therefore we must find other ways of immersing the player. A good way in which we are trying to do this for Assyria is using emotions. We are trying to give the story and characters tremendous emotional depth. Also, many indie games are very unorganised, alot have little of no design document and there is no real way in which assets are managed; to this end I am developing an asset managment website for the team (it will be password protected). This system will basically catagorise the design document, state targets, features, progress etc. It will also have simplistic upload forms to submit assets to an online MYSQL database. I hope this will improve the organisational structure of the team and allow more progress to be made (I will post a screenshot once done). What is the game? We are trying to create a truly new type of game. Our first thought was a fantasy, however we quickly decided that too many had been done. Out second thought was a Shadow Run (fantasy / sci-fi mix). This idea developed and we decided to include some global issues in with the plot. Where does the game take place? The world of Assyria is a magical place that has many different types of people. The individual tribes have found there own unique ways to adapt to the environment that they have been in for thousands of years. The world itself is very expansive and has many different environmental areas that help provide to the culture of the different tribes. What is the main focus? The basic plot is that there is a futuristic city surrounded by jungle. The city contains a race known as Dremodans (futuristic man), whilst the jungle contains Assyrians (tribes of primitive man). The two had lived side by side for centuries without any problems until one day the Assyrians people’s holy site was destroyed. The Dremodan people within the city were blamed. A war is waged between the Assyrian people and the Dremodan city. Fighting goes on and almost all of the Assyrian city members die however they severely weaken the Tec cities defences (all die except for a few, including the main character in the few). It is later found out that the holy site was not destroyed by the Dremodan people, but by a secret underground criminal organisation based below the city. The criminal organisations aim was to weaken the city, using the tribal city so that the criminals could take control of the city. It is then the main characters job to seek revenge on those within the criminal organisation… The final battle reveals that the criminal leader was the original Tribal leader who had fakes his own death during the previous battle in order to create a new identity, with which he can gain control of the technological city and the jungle surrounding… What’s different? This game integrates an extensive story line in with a action based third person perspective. It has a completely unique fighting and spell system. General Features Highly detailed world. Extensive storyline. Multiple side quests. Custom fighting and spell system. Target aim: Free or commercial - depends if it's any good really Compensation: At the end of the project (if we get there) you will be paid royalties based upon money made from the game (if it's commercial that is). However our main aim currently is to create an amazing game, money has very little to do with it. Technology: Ogre 3D + ODE Physics Engine Talent needed: Concept artists, programmers and 3d modellers =) (both high poly - for cinematic’s, and low poly for in game) Team structure: Designers X6 Concept Artists X 5 Musician/Composer X1 Programmer X2 (5 really just havn't got photos from them yet) Website: www.assyria-game.com Contacts: recrutment@assyria-game.com Modeller's and concept artists please send examples of your work to the above e-mail. Current Progress: Well quite a lot of progress has been made with concept art, below is some of the art produced for the game so far! Looks nice so far. terrian is shaping up. If you want some hints on how to realisticly render plantlife, take a look at farcry, it had some great dense plantlife with great LOD that kept it running fast.

Edit: Thanks for the advice, I have since heard the creator of the next far cry (a very kool german dude) talking about that exact topic; realistic plant life and how to lay them out. (at GDC London)

The talk was very useful and I plan on talking as much of his thoughts into account as I can when putting together the Assyria World.

J/K. But to comment on Borkham.. A lot of MMO projects advertise here. most with little to no merrit. That said there are some long running MMO projects that have a lot going for them and with a lot of work being done behind the scenes that dont always show progress..

I guess what I am trying to say is that in developing an MMO, what you see on the surface in screenshots and artwork etc is only 10% of what it takes. Things like database connectors, lopgin servers, patch engines.. ;)

Assyria has been around for along time and started as an MMO (correct me if Im wrong plz but I dont think so.) but they've shown dedication and progress. I think that the dedication and continued work shows a much higher increased chance of success than most projects but one thing I've learnt..

It's not all about the fancy screenshots ;)

All the best on this project guys. I recognize alot of the artwork and I know your working hard. Hope you get the people you need.

Quote From Original Post:"We want to be realistic in our goals, it is therefore a single player game (for now, small scale multiplayer support may be added later)."

For the training level at least we are keeping it single player (although we plan on at least some multiplayer support later in the game).

It is NOT an MMO.

We are keeping it single player for the training level, as it is acting basically as our demo. One plan is to have multiplayer quests (although discussions are still going on about this) so basically certain side quest REQUIRE multiplayer help (of course these will not be for the main quest). What I’m hoping is that we can in some ways merge the single and multiplayer together; too many games have single and multiplayer as separate. The idea is to allow the game to be played on and off as single or multiplayer after a certain point in the game...

Of course none of this has been confirmed, they are just ideas at the moment.

Having been a member on 9 failed projects I know what can cause them to fail; which I consider an advantage. In response to this Assyria is quite a well organised project; we have weekly team meetings, a asset management platform website in the works (currently it has the design document on categorised into sections, upload support for assets etc will come).

The design is VERY in depth, I believe we have over 70 pages of text for the training level alone, and were not finished yet... Also the first build of the engine (which will be VERY basic at this point) is expected to be completed in a few days. This of course will be nothing special; no graphics etc, however it will allow us to begin scripting out the quests.

I hope that helped explain more about our aims and how the project operates!

Thanks!

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the existing team for their continued dedication to the project to keep it moving forwards!

Does the game have anything to do with Assyria (Northern half of ancient Messopotamia depending on time period)

don't get me wrong. after being burned (and losing time and nerves) on several projects, where the initial optimism fizzled out in several months (or days) i was happy to relate my positive opinion of two projects, that are professionaly being build up - assyria and wish. i am not saying that there are not here or somewhere else in the internets (TM Colbert) other, maybe even better projects and more deserving teams. i pointed out those two projects on the basis of my personal experience only; so, again, i am not generalizing, that they are the only ones or the best...

PS sorry questors_endgame I completally missed your post - it has very little to do with it. The only relevance is that Assyrian were part of an egyptian "tribe".

The other developer just has assyrian ancestors and it sounded like a nice name so we chose it =).
