This thread is for those just coming out of and/or with previous relationship problems who have always found comfort in writing game dev. (At least until we try again soon...) Help build the list! Here's what I have so far: "Why writing code (or game development) is better than dating..." 1. It doesn't talk back or say nasty things to or about you 2. When used properly it increases rather than decreases your bank account. 3. It doesn't dump you. 4. It's loyal and always there for you. 5. It is based upon fundamental properties, called rules, while relationships are based upon luck, physical appearance, and ... luck. 6. Since computer languages are designed to eliminate ambiguity, it cannot be misinterpreted. 7. It tells you when you mess up in short, quick, and brutal terms (as opposed to not at all). 8. It doesn't laugh at you. 9. Code doesn't require food, flowers, or candy. 10. Many online tutorials are free. 11. What you can't find in tutorials can be asked in online forums. 12. Getting started is easy and can be free depending upon the language you use. 13. You can get a job with the skills you learn. 14. It doesn't even require you to leave your dorm room. 15. It makes you love everyday things like cold pizza and soda. 16. Code doesn't just stop talking to you or block you on AIM. 17. It doesn't call or text you in the middle of class. 18. It makes people wonder what you spend those endless nights on your computer doing. 19. Knowing code makes you look smart(er than you are). 20. Progress can be determined almost instantaneously by a simple click (compile), then click (run). 21. Programs (usually) impress people. 22. It teaches you how to type, really well. 23. You learn all the funky symbols on your keyboard (!%^*()-=_+{}/?,<.>~) 24. It gives you something to do when you can't find a date on Friday, or Saturday. 25. Comments give you a place to express your jokes that no real person would laugh about (except you). 26. It gives you an application for your physics and vector geometry classes.
