VS2005 SP1 problems?

I updated my Visual Studio 2005 Standard edition to SP1 now that it's out of beta, but I can't compile anything using it now! Whenever I include either the or headers, I get 100s of errors (and seeing as practically everything in the standard libary and boost includes at least one fo them, I can't really compile anything). Has anyone else had any problems with it? I've googled for it without success...

What sort of errors? I.e. what's the first error, and what code does it refer to?

The first thing to do is check that those headers exist on your hard drive.

Next:
If they don't, is you might need to download the PlatformSDK.
It they do, you just need to modify your environment variables to point to the correct place or change your project's Additional Include Directories settings

The headers exist and the compiler finds them: here's the first few errors (out of several hundred):

Error 1 error C3646: 'uninitialized_copy' : unknown override specifier c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 82
Error 2 error C2091: function returns function c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 86
Error 3 error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 86
Error 4 error C3646: 'uninitialized_copy' : unknown override specifier c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 99
Error 5 error C2091: function returns function c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 103
Error 6 error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 103
Error 7 error C3646: '_Uninitialized_copy' : unknown override specifier c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 159
Error 8 error C2091: function returns function c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 164
Error 9 error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\memory 164

Unknown override specifier?? You aren't compiling as managed code, are you?

I don't think so. I've got the "Compile with Common Language Runtime support" options set to "No Common Language Runtime support". That's the option to disable managed code isn't it?

I'm using a new project created as an empty Win32 console application. The only file in the project is a main.cpp and it's contents are as follows:
#include <memory>int main(){}

I've also got the Ankh svn plugin installed, but I can't see how that would affect this.

Have you tried actually returning an integer value from main()?

It's not necessary to return a value from main. The C++ standard states that if execution reaches the end of main without encountering a return statement the effect is as if the last line of main was return 0. Besides which the errors are clearly coming from the memory header.

Nitage: I haven't gotten around to upgrading my VC++ yet, but my memory header appears to differ from yours going by the errors and line numbers. Any chance you could post a link to your version or suitable excerpts? That might help shed some light.

I needed my compiler back, so I decided to reinstall.

However, I did notice that the header files that were causing the errors had been updated by the SP1 installation. I assume that other changes were required for thos files to correctly compile that for some reason weren't completed.

I think I'll leave SP1 alone for a couple of months and see if this kind of problem gets reported by others.

Maybe you had a bad install/upgrade?

I installed SP1 right when it was released, and I just now compiled your exact code to verify but I have zero errors on compilation. This was using Visual Studio Professional from MSDN.

I haven't been able to find any explanation or fix for the problem.

I just reinstalled without SP1.
