Lets start small. (Python)

[Ignoring the required format because I couldn't fit what I wanted to say into it] 'ello, I'm ldle and I'm posting here because I'm looking for one, maybe two, Python programmers. Basically the position I'm in right now is that, well, I'm skilled but I don't want to work alone and I definitely don't want to join any of these ridiculously large projects people are advertising. So, this is what I want and if you want it too, reply! There is a Games competition that is pretty large in the Python gamming community called PyWeek. If you know Python and use PyGame you probably already know about it. Its a basic competition where you must create a themed game from scratch in under a week. I'm thinking that we (you and I) should write a few small games. I'm talking small and retro. Each game should take us no longer than a few weeks. This is so that you and I can get in the "groove" of working together, using collaboration tools and simply getting used to reading each other's code. I want to express just what kinds of games I'm talking about. Simple arcade or puzzle games. Pong, Breakout, Arkinoid, Snake, Tron, Centipede, etc. If you're interested I'm totally open as to which kind of game we should start with as it doesn't really matter because we'll finish it quickly and be on to the next. Technology: Cross-platform with Python and Pygame (SDL Wrapper) Talent needed: Any one or two persons interested in leisurely working on simple arcade clones. Team structure: I'm asking for Python programmers but if you're bored and want to do some simple art or sound, that's cool too. Contacts: AIM: LDLEWORKER Email: dlacewell@gmail.com Additional Info: Two things. Please know Python already and please don't be flakey. Feedback: Ideas for small games. Python discussion. Interested replies.

I like the smaller and very realistic goal you've set yourself there, I hope you're able to find some interested in helping you out. [smile]
Yeah I'm sure someone is interested in making some small clones. I'm just not sure how large the Python community is. Can we get a list of hands?

Python is a great choice for most stuff not intensive....
What exactly does that mean? What exactly is your experience in writing intensive applications, specifically in Python?
Anyway, good luck. I am tempted but currently overworked so I do not want to get involved only to have to bail on you.
Cheers.
Yeah, I'm temped too, but I know that life would hit me and I'd have to bail. Sorry.

a small project with realistic goals can be a very nice thing, but there are other projects in this section that are big but aren't ridiculous in any way. A small project can be the only realistic goal for you but there are peoples out there that have already done a lot of small things and have a lot of experience and wants to try to make something bigger, that's not ridiculous. So, please be kind, if you want respect for your little phyton game, respect also the latest utopian mmorpg that other users are trying to make. Thanks :)
For example my project isn't not small and not really big, i think it reflect my limits and my skills.. ;)
btw this isn't an offence or a sort of attack, i only wanted to say that, ok, sometimes people dreams too much about making games, but in this section there are also a lot of big projects that are going nicely
bye, good luck for your project too! and sorry for my terrible english...
I participated solo in the the second PyWeek (didn't do too well, although my game had a pretty high degree of difficulty). I think it's a good move to start forming teams now; PyWeek is pretty intense. It was a great experience, even though it required a programming style altogether foreign to my deliberate and thorough way of doing things.
I don't think I'm interested (I prefer to either be either a loner or a dictator), but I recommend it highly.

Eclipse WHE:: Haha sorry man! I didn't mean to put anyone down :) There /are/ some really impressive projects going on. By ridiculous I meant they are ridiculous for me. Not because I couldn't partake in such endevours but because I have and they either are too time-expensive or they stagnate. I'm glad you called me out because I should use softer words ;)
Everyone else:: If you responded with something along the lines of "life will get in the way" ah don't say that. I'm not looking for slaves. I'm looking for people who know Python and code leisurely in their spare time. That's what I'm looking for.
Some mates who can work SVN and would like to casually participate in some projects. pyWeek is completley optional but I feel that anyone could really enjoy it. (PS: next pyWeek isn't for a long while)
Write back if I've convinced you I'm not asking anyone to commit. I just need some company :)

I'm knew to programming, and I started with Python a couple of months ago. I'm glad that other people actually use it. I thought I was all alone. I'm afraid that I lack the skills to make a game, I havn't learned anything about GUIs yet. I would be happy to work with you in a year or two though.
I'm same as stormtrooper. Add us to your programmer partners in training list.
