Using the following as reference... http://blogs.msdn.com/shawnhar/archive/2006/12/07/rendering-a-model-with-a-custom-effect.aspx How do I go about using this? I would like to replace the effect with my own custom shader as in this example....

When you write a custom processor like that, you'll want to do so in a separate library. When you compile said library, then you can add a reference to that library in your game's "content pipeline assemblies" section in the project properties.

Well, the documentation can say it better than I ... here is a quote from the doc, "How to: Add a New Processor or Importer to XNA Game Studio Express":
Quote:
The following procedures add a custom importer and processor to an existing game solution (called "MyGame"). It is assumed that the new importer or processor was copied to a local sub-directory of the "Mygame" solution.

To add a custom importer:
-Open XNA Game Studio Express.
-Load the MyGame solution.
-From Solution Explorer, double-click the Properties node. This opens the Properties window for your current project.
-Select the XNA Content Pipeline Assemblies tab.
-Click the Add... button.
-Navigate to the directory containing the custom importer.
-Select the custom importer and click Open.
-Save the solution.

The new importer appears as one of the choices when selecting an importer for a game asset. Use this same procedure for adding a custom processor.
