Hi everyone, I'm looking to do some 3d reconstruction by shape from silhouette, but for the moment I'm looking for an algorithm to "polygonize" a contour, i.e. to approximate a silhouette of an object by a 2d polygon. I was just wondering if you knew of any algorithms doing this that I could implement.

Marching Squares or Marching Cubes might be useful to you.

Marching cubes has the advantage of being a simple concept, but usually requires a huge grid resolution to get the error under a reasonable treshold.

This course might be interesting to you, chapters 5 and 6 in particular (the relevant parts are in english).

Thanks very much for your replies. I have heard of the marching squares algorithm, although I am not familiar with it. Do you know where I could find more information on it, perhaps an algorithm outline?

Nice paper, thank you.

What really blows my mind is that I was already 2 paragraphs into Chapter 8 before I realized it had turned to French. :) I thought I was losing my mind for a second.
