Hi all, I am working on some 3d platform title, and I get the job to do some AI things. The 1st come in my mind is how to make NPC movement around driven by AI in 3d area. All my experience is only on 2d( Grid base ) so it's not complex like 3d area. What kind of AI I can use ? did I define manually the path data so the NPC can choose what path he choose but I think it's not good because area will grow large and it will frustate if we manually define and need to tune on that. So Is anyone be kindly to show me some stuff or link where I can start off? Thanks before, Regards, Randy

If the entity cannot fly, then you're still moving more or less on a surface (mostly horizontal, with some extensions where climbing or jumping), so you can apply 2D pathfinding almost identically.

If the entity can fly, then you might want to use a visibility graph on your scene (techniques exist to create it automatically), and then move around the graph. Again, it's a shortest-path-in-graph problem, so once the graph is available, you can use any of the known pathfinding algorithms.
