Hi! I'm interested in making a mobile game for several platforms- Symbian s60, Symbian UIQ, Windows Mobile and Palm OS and I'm not sure which is the best way to do it. The game is 2D. Is it too much of an effort to create a specific program for each platform or can a game be converted easily if it's built the right way? And what about the different development kits, are any of them recommended? Will using them damage the performance? Does anyone know how it's normally done? Thanks :)

Moving between the two Symbian systems wouldn't be too hard. WM and Palm are both dramatically different.

You would be able to preserve all the core gameplay functionality between them, but everything that deals with hardware and IO is going to be different.

Be prepared to have different functions to deal with all graphics, all audio, all input, and all networking. Be prepared for OS-specific function calls and memory handling. Most annoyingly, be prepared for device-specific bugs.

As far as any development kits go, GapiDraw is able to handle the graphics on Symbian and WM. You'd still be on your own with everything else. No, using something like that won't significantly hurt your performance, but will dramatically improve your development time and reduce your workload.

For Symbian/WM programming DieselEngine can also be used. As I briefly compared both of those (with GapiDraw) and both seams to be simillar, DieselEngine has sound system support in addition.
