First off I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum but i wasn't sure where to post this. I'm having a problem the free Express Edition of Visual Studio. I have this installed on my laptop as i dont have a DVD drive on it so cant install the full DVD version that i have on my home pc. The problem I have is that when I try to compile on my laptop i get a error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol error, or 31 of them to be precise. But this compiles fine on my home pc. The linker settings seem to be the same so I'm not sure where I should be looking, can anyone help please?

Is the linker errors in the STL functions?
If I recall correctly you have to download these standard functions seperatly - they don't come together with the Visual Studio express edition.

Klarre is right, if you want Win32 and native c++ stuff, you have to grab the Platform SDK from Microsoft. Of course, -showing- us your errors would help ascertain the problem, but maybe we find your answer already ;)

I've downloaded the sdk and installed it, I thought it could have been to do with me not adding the lib directory in the included ones but that hasn't made a difference. The help is appreciated.

Well those errors clearly indicate that your project isn't linked with Win32. You have installed it and you have added the lib directory, but have you remembered to actually link to the static library?

Hi guys, i got it solved by adding User32.lib and Gdi32.lib to the additional dependances for the project and it seems to compile correctly now. Thanks for the help.
