ok, i have some scratched discs that i want to repair, i read about abrasive materials remove a small layer of plastic so the scratches are reduced, i've seen this stuff here but i don't want to say $12 shipping. :P does anyone know where i can get simpler stuff in the uk? thanks ps. i'll look after my disc better in future, :P

I've heard a lot of people brush their teeth now, in which case you're likely to have toothpaste around. It works quite well.

And in case it wasn't obvious, don't add water to the toothpaste. Just rub it on the disc dry. And really, rub it. Don't be shy about it. It's feels weird as hell to be doing it, because it goes counter to everything we normally do with optical media. But when you finally wash the toothpaste away and the scratch is just plain gone, well, you can't argue with results.

I don't think it matters.

And as a plus, your CD's will have a minty smile for months to come. [smile]

Years ago when i didnt used to take care of my CD's, i'd have insanely scratched up CD's. If the drive wouldnt read from them, i'd run the bottom part of the CD's under a running water tap for a minute or two. after that they'd work flawlessly even though you could still see the billions of scratches on them.

I have no idea why this used to work, maybe the scratches got filled with tiny mineral particles? *shrugs* i dunno.
