I just wanted to make sure that if someone were to hire someone to write a story for a video game, they would be looking for someone who's completed a degree in English or Creative Writing, correct?

They would be looking for someone who's written things (books, plays, scripts) that have encountered even minimal success with the audience. A degree in anything is neither necessary nor sufficient.

Victor's answer is correct. What is it you're really trying to find out? You want to become a game story writer, and you want to know what degree to get? Is that it? http://www.sloperama.com/advice/lesson32.htm.
