High level game development?

Hi, Recently I have gotten the itch again to get back into game development... I have always used C++ for all my game dev stuff... However the past year or two I have been doing less and less game development as I got a job in the real world as a software dev... Mostly doing .NET type stuff. I never stopped coding games for too long though... always hopped back around to my source and starting new little projects. Now that I'm itching to code games again (this happens like every month [grin])...what I'd really like is to move on to is 3d...I have always been horrible with math and it has always held me back from it... but I'd like to try now that I'm a more mature programmer... I also feel like If I knew now what I knew then, I might have finished my one big project. I realize this is a broad question, but here it goes: What is the easiest way for me to get a 3D game up and running in the .NET platform? I *have* done research myself but would like your opinions... so far, I haven't been impressed with the choice of .NET physics, graphics libraries, and game engines out there.... So far it looks like XNA might be my best bet... But is there nothing out there that will greatly simplify the '3D-ness' of everything? Something like: RenderingEngine.AddObject(some_object) PhysicsEngine.AddObject(some_object) Is there anything that simplifies the math and such involved with physics and rendering in this way? I've seen something close to this in the rendering side of things - but what about physics? I'm hoping there is something out there that will encapsulate much of the math involved with this stuff... what my real interest is, is the networking side of things... I'd really like to make a small scale 3D MMORPG to be honest [lol]. Before you jump down my throat, take a look at my 2D MMORPG base game/engine that I created from scratch in C++ Thanks for any help. [Edited by - graveyard filla on January 8, 2007 6:30:33 PM]

XNA is pretty nice. Honestly, the type of functionality you seek isn't even available in most off-the-shelf engines, they function at a lower level than that for the most part. What you describe is closer to some of the "game builder" type applications out there. The Garage Games people make one thats based on torque, but I think its limited to 2D games. A company Called Phrogram was demonstrating a pretty high-level engine at the XNA open house that looked interesting; it was driven by a very BASIC-like, proprietary language (though they insisted it be called English-like for some reason.)

I think i'll stick with XNA then... I guess I wasn't expecting there to be some magic API that did everything, but I am curious on if there's any good physics API's for .NET, and how good the one for XNA is... I've googled and really couldn't come up with anything... I have the XNA Game Studio now though and am trying to read up on more tuts on it.
