I wanted to get Rockbox for my ipod. The only problem that I am having is that I still have a one year apple care warranty for it. I got it when i bought a refurbished ipod. Will my warranty be voided if I install rockbox on it? And if it doesn't if Rockbox somehow breaks my ipod and I return it, will Apple be angry with me for not having there firmware?

As a note, we've never officially denied that Rockbox may, or will officially (in the case of iRiver at least) void warranty, and we do warn users who ask that it may.

Apple is the only case where it's really questionable, since nothing is flashed in the firwmare ROM, and almost all warranties explicitly state something relating to flashing firmware, or "hardware modifications" which this can in some cases be considered to be.

Posted by the administrator at the official forums, but in a question to whether it voids iPods' warranty he also answered:

1) I honestly don't know if it voids your warranty, but the apple restore utility will completely remove rockbox from your ipod, so you can never really get your ipod to a position where you can't restore it before returning for warranty repairs.

Note that I can't confirm any of this, just what it says on their forum.
