I don't know about in Europe, but the University of Central Florida, working with the city of Orlando, the state of Florida, and some former EA people started the Florida Interactive Entertainment Institute. It's a fully accredited master's in Interactive Entertainment (an M.S.) through the University of Central Florida, and they were talking about doing a more research oriented Ph.D. program as well.

I believe that Cornell has a similar program.
