I am trying to find resources to help me in creating a PHP/MySQL-driven game, but I cannot find any tutorials to this effect. Any help?

If you don't know PHP syntax you can start by learning it - other than that its pretty straight forward, PHP Games are just PHP Scripts/Applications... like anything else, no magic tricks, nothing different than a regular script. If you knew PHP (and using PHP's MySQL functions) then you'd realize the simplicity of it. Good day sir ;).

I started a 'getting started with php/mysql web based gaming' tutorial a while back... but havn't finished it. My goal was to post it to the site, have these guys look it over, and then list it under the tutorials session. However, I could help you get started if you like.... do you use IRC?

Hello Kittrellbj.

I have also wandered the same thing. My friend pointed me to these 2 websites.
http://www.w3schools.com/
http://www.tizag.com/

Those are 2 great sites.

I have not learned PHP or Mysql myself yet. But I plan to in the future. I have read the basics of the w3schools PHP tutorial, and I liked it. Easy and teaches me what I need.

If you want more tutorials just google, "PHP tutorials"

I hope this helps.

Hmm... it seems two of the best PHP tutorials on the net are down mine (I am allowed a little ego trip aren't I?), which went down with the evil twin (that would be gamedeveloper.net--and my traversing the Wayback machine cannot get my PHP articles off the evil twin), and daholygoat has turned into a PHP blog.

hrmmm.... I was making a PHP article for K-1ine, but when my computer crashed, that disappeared... seems the web doesn't want me to share my PHP knowledge :P

Anyways, just posted this to say, that yet another person has a PHP article on the backburner.

Or better yet read the manual! The manual includes function reference, function examples, and user comments. The examples in the manual alone should get you familiar enough with PHP.

The manual provides a long and content filled learning experience for PHP, but its still the last place to look in favor of tutorials that attempt to pack the entire language in a ten minute course (apart from the tutorials that are attempting to teach a specific part of a/the language).

Although I personally feel PHP and game programming don't mix there are books on it like this one I have.
You can probably save yourself some money and just check out the book's source code here.

I'm not sure I agree with that, pretty much any language that outputs something can mix with game programming, although its restricted to specific types of games. Generally PHP person-vs-person type games are turn based or a race of who can reload the page quicker - I've made a few interesting PHP games in the past, but nothing that had features which would stand out among the hundreds of other browser based games.
